The festivities approach so very quickly m'friends. This year our ambitions take us into into the Masque and Stories, to the very borders of Oberon's Court. Dragons are learning to walk as nobles and faerie creatures dance. Time approaches and Sypher's Royal Court shall open its doors for a weekend of magic.

Enjoy the world around you; each little detail you perceive is a brush stroke of creation. Upon solid soil we place these dreams and with our hands we shall forge them.

I need your help getting the word out on a dress that I am selling.

On June 4th, my very good friends lost their 15-year-old daughter in a terrible car accident. I've decided to list my dresses on Ebay and donate whatever they sell for to them to help with funeral costs. It has been a devastating week and there is nothing more helpless than watching someone you love go through such terrible pain.

I've done a listing on Ebay for any one of my dresses or a custom designed piece, whatever the winning bidder wants. The listing started at only $20, but I'm hoping it will really skyrocket.

If you blog, or send out emails a lot, anything to help me help them would be more than appreciated guys.
Experience not necessary, however we are looking for people who have confidence making things and performing in front of people. Must be will to challenge ones self and be willing to perform in bizarre, sometime uncomfortable costumes.

I found a great funky friendly hostel very close to the venue last year and plan on renting again this year. The hostel has great space and I'm considering renting a bigger room or even a dorm room if enough people are interested.

The family room has a queen size bed & two two size beds - Total cost $85

The dorm room has 8 twin size beds - per person cost would be $25

Both rooms have a full kitchen, private bath, internet, cable ect....

If anyone is interested check out my profile to ensure I'm not a perv... at least not in the bad kind of way :P and email me if you are interested.

Because I have to pay for it whether or not beds are filled I am asking for the space share to be paid 1 week prior to the event.

He recently recieved the following e-mail from his son, Andy, and forwarded it on to the members of the Columbia River Detachment in hopes that we might be able to help. I am forwarding it to you in the most sincere hope that in the spirit of the season you will know who it can be forwarded to next so that Andy gets more than enough toys and school supplies for the youngsters in that war-torn country that they will never again doubt the generosity and caring of the American people.

I also happen to know that the Marines themselves are desperate for things to do during their 'down' time and would really appreciate things like footballs, frisbees, games, books, etc. which could also be sent to Captain Andy for distribution throughout the area (though not all items will go to only Marines, they are like that, what they get they have this annoying tendency to share!!).

Please, please, please - forward this to everyone you know. I have never asked for anything to be forwarded and wouldn't even know where to begin to promise rich rewards or dire consequences. I just know, that this is one way that you and I stuck here at home can really make a difference, half a world away!!
in most of the towns (over a couple thousand square miles in our AO -
area of operations) and they can assist with the distribution. School
GLIMPSE WITHIN: The Masquerade
Wander through the ancient halls where the manuscripts of Sypher's Core have collected the legends of faerie and echoed the artifacts of empires. Through these elaborate gates, dreams take precious breath as Lords and Ladies dance amongst the fae and their dreams mingle upon unfinished
temples and forested realms. Here masked beauties wait alongside water nymphs as strings set a tone of enchantment in the air.

Quick Notes from Strider:

As I finish up this missive to our beloved patrons and noble friends, the Sypher artists are buried in their preparations. The Elvish Water Temples and ancient forests are beginning to take shape as the glittering realms within our dreams begin to solidify. The the festivities approach so very quickly m'friends. This year our ambitions take us into the heart of Faerie, to the very boarders of the etheral trees and Oberon's Court. Baby dragons are learning to fly as nobles and faerie creatures dance. Time approaches and Sypher's Royal Court shall open its doors for a weekend of magic.

Well, time burns, promising only to burn out. Enjoy the world around you, each little detail you perceive are the brushstrokes of creation.
Upon solid soil we place these dreams and with our hands we shall forge them.

If you live in the LA area, and you are looking for a truly unique and one-of-a-kind gown for LOJ, check out:

Luthegarde, on 3rd Street at Harper Avenue (south side of 3rd Street, across from Toast restaurant)

This designer makes exquisite tops, skirts and dresses (tunic, knee and ankle length) using vintage and contemporary lingerie as an "altered couture" base garment, custom-dying each piece in multiple resists and dyes (resulting in butterfly/moth-like fluttery edges of color) and adding panels, swags, sashes, overlays etc. with touches of embroidery, appliques, mesh, tulle, lace and ribbon. These garments are delicate, artisanal and exquisitely feminine. I've heard other customers refer to them as "fairy clothes" :)
They are investment pieces that you will treasure and enjoy for many years.

If you are in West Hollywood, going to The Grove or 3rd street Farmers Market, swing by and check her out.

Greetings everyone,

I am brainstorming my first coat/robe. This is something I've been thinking about ever since my first Burning Man and I want to make it happen this year. Any creative ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

The image below is a very rough blueprint: (I also posted it in most recent blog entry).

http://www.pimpcostumes.com/costumes/Pimp-Costumes/Big-Platinum-Pimp/Big-Platinum-Pimp-Millennium-Mack/102,114_122

But I want the robe to be more tribal and mystical, with a glamorous psychedelic effect.

Here is my idea. Instead of the white and black faux fur lining, I want it to be blue and black. And I want flattened feathers embedded around the faux fur lining. Of different colors like blue, violet, green, black, gray, white, and orange. Would that look good?

The inner lining would be a silky blue. And then I'd like a pentagram pattern on the back, to represent the four elements and spirit. Plus, I'm considering having EL wire sown in to the coat make it blacklight reactive.

And since I'm a total novice as far as materials go, any tips on the material for the robe itself? Something a bit glossy, but durable would be good.

Thanks!

To brighter inspirations and aspirations we keep our eyes and set the pace with furious vigor. But there's also a time to enjoy the moments you have my dear friends.

I am on the hunt for some fantasy-tribal costume gear for both Labyrinth of Jareth and Burning Man. I'm having a hard time finding stuff I really like and would appreciate any input or suggestions.

I am willing to do what it takes to get something I really enjoy and vibe with. But I'm also on the lookout for accessories I can use in piecing together some of my own costumes.
the event goes from around 8 untill...

first show was january 27 2004@ Van Kleef's in Oakland.
It was quite a production inluding the queen's concert,
tea party trio, suitcase puppet show of walrus & carpenter
and the jabberwock monstermasks. twas a mad evening
of fun.
the next was a one man show for an intimate audience
of close friends.
it's third year running was the mad tea party with a book
& c.d. to accompany.
the 4th year is set to be in co-operation with
the lucid dream lounge.
this is the culmination of a lifetimes connection to
the writings of Lewis Caroll,
here was my original Idea :I'ts a glam rock opera,
Spacey sci-fi, I like ziggy style, and kabuki japanese
cats, bunraku, noh theatre. this is a description of
a young lewis caroll, in some fanciful asian opium den,
being served and having the hallucination that he
watered down to create alice's adventures in
wonderland. focusing on the bestiary of "Jabberwok"
, the white rabbit, the tea party, and a god-like
presence of the cheshire (cat).
seeking performers, puppet craft, and hosts for
this would bee epic of psychedelic performance art.
follow thee white rabbit...
the set so far
red queen (an original)
white rabbit(+new verses)
the walrus & the carpenter (to music)
I am the walrus (mutant version)
the humpty dump (mix of humpty dance with parts
of eggman & the original poem)
jabberwocky(grunge version)
to all tomorrows parties
the inverse set also features some surprizes from
the collective of songwriters (the likes of the hobo gobbelins,
sourmash hug band & accordion plague)

ttp://Cheshire-rockopera.tribe.net

AT THE START OF THE SHOW:
white rabbit makes an appearance & then takes us
"through the rabbit hole". when we hit the bottom
a red queen appears: I'm bored to tears with the likes
of you! I declare that there shall be a concert to
amuse me & my royal court."
at this point a page begins calling forth the appointed
acts,
***still looking for quick cabaret style performances
(2-3 songs) which can work with a wonderland style

when it comes time for the hatter to sing,
he does so off key & tempo, so badly that the
queen shouts: "stop him! he's murdering time!!!"
and a guard roughly ejects the hatter from the "stage".
perhaps a bit of mumbling as the court complains
of the hatter's ruination of the concert.
focus shifts to the tea party set.
mad hatter: Oh bugger! they've broken my watch!
march hare: let me see that watch hatter.
(smears it with a thick layer of butter)
that should do the trick.
hatter: (shakes watch & listens) nope, it's still broken
now, we'll be stuck in tea time forever.
dormouse: play us a song hatter, to help us pass the time
hatter plays white rabbit....
One pill makes you larger
And one pill makes you small
And the ones that mother gives you
Don't do anything at all
When logic and proportion
Have fallen sloppy dead
And the White Knight is talking backwards
And the Red Queen's off with her head
Remember what the dormouse said
Feed your head, feed your head

/ F# - / G - / F# - / G - / A CD A - / E A E A /

at the conclusion of the song the dormouse says
"feed your head"
hare: what'd he say?
hatter: I don't know, I can't remember.
mouse: feed your head!
hatter: well then, what ever are we to feed it?
hare: I've got an idea, let's feed it treacol
alice: where ever shall we find treacol?
hatter: why, at the bottom of a well, of course
another cup of tea?
alice: but if we were to fall down the well,
however should we get back out again?
hare: we shan't be able to get out, we'd be
stuck down there for the rest of time with
nothing but treacol to eat, pass the crumpets
alice: but if the moon could only see
down in the well, I'm certain she...
mouse:...would be so sad that she would cry
an clouds blot out the starry sky
alice: fill the well up with the rain
so we could get back out again!
hatter:..and float down to a salty sea...
hare: where maybe we could look & see
hatter: a bite of something good to eat
hare: a tasty dish!
hatter & hare together: A FISHY TREAT!!
at this point a mock turtle comes in with
a taureen of hot green soup, followed by a
gryphon.
hatter: I say there, mock turtle what's that
you've got?
mock: it is a most beautiful soup! try some
(ladles some into tiny cups passing some to the party)
hatter:delicious!
as the band strikes up the beautiful soup song
the soup service continues.

at the end of the song,
hatter asks: I say, mock turtle, did you bring any
lobsters with you?
mock: no, (sadly) but they sent this message
(hands card to hatter)
hatter: (reading from card)
"dear sir
we thank you kindly for your invitation to the
cheshire rock opera, however we are already
engaged to attend the lobster quadrille.
best wishes,
the lobsters"
... ah, the lobster quadrille, what a lovely song
and dance!"
mock: (disagreeably) I always thought it was very sad
hatter: no, I assure you it is a delightful little tune,
listen to the way we play it.
(during the tune mock turtle moves to the dance floor
& a group of alices dance around and with her.
"Will you walk a little faster?" said a whiting to a snail.
g f a
See how eagerly the lobsters and the turtles all advance!
They are waiting on the shingle - will you come and join the dance?
Will you, won't you, will you, won't you, will you join the dance?
"You can really have no notion how delightful it will be
g f a
d
But the snail replied "Too far, too far!" and gave a look askance -
g f a
d
f d g
Would not, could not, would not, could not, would not join the dance.
d f d g d
f d
Would not, could not, would not, could not, could not join the dance.
d
Then turn not pale, beloved snail, but come and join the dance.
d f d g d f
Will you, won't you, will you, won't you, won't you join the dance?"

at the end of the song, mock turtle returns to the
table, with a worried look on his face
mock: that's all well & good, but I don't really undestand
can you play it again?
hatter: but of course
instead they play "the voice of the lobster"
'Tis the Voice of the Lobster
Cm
'Tis the voice of the Lobster: I heard him declare
Fm
"You have baked me too brown, I must sugar my hair."
Cm
As a duck with its eyelids, so he with his nose
D G
Trims his belt and buttons, and turns out his toes.
Cm
When the sands are all dry, he is gay as a lark
Fm
And will talk in contemptuous tones of the Shark:
Cm
But, when the tide rises and sharks are around,
D G ~~~
His voice has a timid and tremulous sound.

I passed by his garden, and marked with one eye,
How the Owl and Panther were sharing a pie:
The Panther took pie-crust, and gravy and meat,
While the Owl had the dish as its share of the treat.
When the pie was all finished, the Owl as a boon,
Was kindly permitted to pocket the spoon:
While the Panther received knife and fork with a growl,
And concluded the banquet by--

on the last note of the song a tuft of feathers is
thrown in the air.
mock: I don't see what the point is of repeating
all this stuff over & over, if you aren't going to
take the time to explain it.
hatter: I tell you what, mock turtle, I've got a box here
which is sure to explain everything.
puts the box on the table & thus is the set up for
walrus & the carpenter
The Walrus and The Carpenter
Lewis Carroll
(from Through the Looking-Glass and
What Alice Found There, 1872)
the verses shall be noted as such
first verse noted is v1, & 2nd is v2
thus follows
Em Am
The sun was shining on the sea,
B7 Em
Shining with all his might:
Em Am
He did his very best to make
B7 Em
The billows smooth and bright--
B7 Em
And this was odd, because it was
B7 Em
The middle of the night.

The moon was shining sulkily,
Because she thought the sun
Had got no business to be there
After the day was done--
"It's very rude of him," she said,
"To come and spoil the fun!"
B7 Em
The sea was wet as wet could be,
B7 Em
The sands were dry as dry.
B7 Em
You could not see a cloud, because
B7 Em
No cloud was in the sky:
Em Am
No birds were flying overhead--
B7 Em
There were no birds to fly.
v1
The Walrus and the Carpenter
Were walking close at hand;
They wept like anything to see
Such quantities of sand:
"If this were only cleared away,"
They said, "it would be grand!"
v2
"If seven maids with seven mops
Swept it for half a year.
Do you suppose," the Walrus said,
"That they could get it clear?"
"I doubt it," said the Carpenter,
And shed a bitter tear.
v1
"O Oysters, come and walk with us!"
The Walrus did beseech.
"A pleasant walk, a pleasant talk,
Along the briny beach:
We cannot do with more than four,
To give a hand to each."
v2
The eldest Oyster looked at him,
But never a word he said:
The eldest Oyster winked his eye,
And shook his heavy head--
Meaning to say he did not choose
To leave the oyster-bed.
v1
But four young Oysters hurried up,
All eager for the treat:
Their coats were brushed, their faces washed,
Their shoes were clean and neat--
And this was odd, because, you know,
They hadn't any feet.
v2
Four other Oysters followed them,
And yet another four;
And thick and fast they came at last,
And more, and more, and more--
All hopping through the frothy waves,
And scrambling to the shore.
v1
The Walrus and the Carpenter
Walked on a mile or so,
And then they rested on a rock
Conveniently low:
And all the little Oysters stood
And waited in a row.
~~~~~~~
v1
"The time has come," the Walrus said,
"To talk of many things:
Of shoes--and ships--and sealing-wax--
Of cabbages--and kings--
And why the sea is boiling hot--
And whether pigs have wings."
~~~~~
v1 (or2)
"But wait a bit," the Oysters cried,
"Before we have our chat;
For some of us are out of breath,
And all of us are fat!"
"No hurry!" said the Carpenter.
They thanked him much for that.
v1
"A loaf of bread," the Walrus said,
"Is what we chiefly need:
Pepper and vinegar besides
Are very good indeed--
Now if you're ready, Oysters dear,
We can begin to feed."
v2 (or1)
"But not on us!" the Oysters cried,
Turning a little blue.
"After such kindness, that would be
A dismal thing to do!"
"The night is fine," the Walrus said.
"Do you admire the view?
v2 (or1)
"It was so kind of you to come!
And you are very nice!"
The Carpenter said nothing but
"Cut us another slice:
I wish you were not quite so deaf--
I've had to ask you twice!"
v2(or1)
"It seems a shame," the Walrus said,
"To play them such a trick,
After we've brought them out so far,
And made them trot so quick!"
The Carpenter said nothing but
"The butter's spread too thick!"
v2
"I weep for you," the Walrus said:
"I deeply sympathize."
With sobs and tears he sorted out
Those of the largest size,
Holding his pocket-handkerchief
Before his streaming eyes.
v1
"O Oysters," said the Carpenter,
"You've had a pleasant run!
Shall we be trotting home again?'
But answer came there none--
And this was scarcely odd, because
They'd eaten every one.

during the last verses of the song trays of hors devors
(smoked oyster on a slice of french bread with a dash
of pepper & vinegar) are passed around.

I Am the Walrus

I am he
As you are he
As you are me
And we are all together.
at the end of the song humpty dumpty arrives.
& 1mb+ plays humpty song, during which the
jabber wocky creatures head off to get their masks on.
at the end of the song...

humpty: hello every body, since we've been
through the looking glass & back, I can tell before
we get there that you wont be able to understand
these next verses so, I'll do a bit of explaining in

Unfortunately, due to the difficulties in providing a format which would allow everyone a place for their own timeline or specialty, along with addressing issues of security and protecting against anonymous trolling, the site turned out to be too bulky and clumsy to navigate. As a result, the costume community has stayed away in droves.

As a result, we at CostumeRating.com and AmIPeriodOrNot.com have decided that the site we built simply isn’t going to provide the necessary framework to make everyone happy. Therefore, we found it necessary to take the site down…
By science mad and arts arcane, through dangers untold and hardships unnumbered, the mystical portal to the faery kingdom is being built this year at the Felton Asylum. The veil will be parted this year on the evening of Saturday, October 28th 2006, and the passage to the enchanted realm held open until the first rays of dawn close the portal until next year.

I must seriously be out of my mind, but the gown is way too big and beyond 14 days repair. There goes several hundred dollars. I am selling the basic bodice, chemise (that's the shirt under it for you newbies :) and the underskirt. This gown would look best with a black skirt if you have one. Guys it's movie quality sewing, so if you need a gown..I'll let it go cheaply. It's waaaay too big for me...it's a 38 bust easily and like a 29-30 waist or so. Pics under the Labyrinth pic tab...buzz me if you are interested...it goes up for auction on Ebay 3 days from now if no one jumps on it. Sad to see it go, but someone might as well get some use out of it.

This release is just for Tribe, changed up a little to give those who are linked to me some information on the LOJ Fantasy Masquerade before our next release. . . Feel free to pass this along, share it with your friends and glitter your wings. . . We're within that 30 day window before LOJ and the artists of Sypher are working their fingers to the bone to make certain we're ready to open the doors of the court. . .

For those who didn't know, this year's LOJ is a touch more ambitious for us than usual and the Sypher Crew has been jumping back and forth between San Diego, San Francisco and Los Angeles trying to keep up with our three creative teams.

Keep your eyes peeled, for this year, Desert Sin, Tresk and Sypher have planned several new acts, where we normally only do one. This year I've penned three stories for the stage and we're finishing compositions, sculpting new sets and creating choreography for entirely new pieces from these stories. I truly hope you'll enjoy them.

Advanced Bliss and Drop Black Sky have new Albums released this year LOJ, of which they'll be performing live music from and we have many new friends merging their talents with the Sypher Art Studios Alliance (Sylphirance) to perform both on our two little stages and one Main stage. The New Albums will be available at LOJ to purchase.

People have been sending in some amazing progress on costumes their costumes this year. . . I can't wait to see how some of our patrons build these amazing creations. . . if you'd like to show me what you're planning on wearing to LOJ, please do. . . it always brightens me to see what you're building for LOJ.

Speaking of our patrons, it's official, NO TICKETS will be available at the door. We've broke our ticket records this year and we're down to our last holdings of tickets. Make sure you and your friends have yours. . . As of July 4th, if you haven't purchased your tickets yet, (and we still have some available), you'll miss our shipping deadline, which means you'll have to pick yours up at will call.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What else. . . ahh, a small challenge I'll whisper to those who've payed attention.

Have you noticed any of the strange elvish runes we've placed upon props and such, in years past? Fragments of forgotten tales linger in their scripts.

Well, time burns, promising only to burn out. Enjoy the world around you, each little detail you perceive are the brushstrokes of creation.

There is a magic in this life to be cherished my friends. Keep your eyes bright and dreams brighter. -S Strider

I'm of course, still looking for a dozen pieces for my costume. At the moment, I find myself searching for the perfect boots. Over the last couple of years I've used some generic renfaire boot that were alright, but not really comfortable for all the leaping, jumping, running, building, dancing, stepping, climbing, rigging and general steps that I take throughout the night.

So, if anyone has some suggestions on where to get some amazing boots that would be able to keep up with me throughout the night, equally they must look the part. I want something with a regal touch of the elvish courts, but practical for my duties. I'm interested in hearing your ideas, including techniques for making them or merchants who may have what I'm looking for. . .
I'm sure I'm not the only one in need of such rugged costume elements.
I'll also post to tribe when the pre-show tickets are released. We have a few new surprises for our beloved patricians for this year's revels within the court. I truly hope you'll enjoy them. . .

Also, we've just opened up the LOJ 2006 tier 3 tickets this morning, which gives us only one last batch of tickets left, that might be enough to get us through May to early June. If you know people were were planning on going to LOJ, they should get their tickets soon.
I know I don't post much to public boards, as time seem to burn so quickly, always promising to burn out, but I shall see about keeping an eye upon Tribe - as there seems to be quite a few friends and faeries pushing me to make my voice heard upon these digital domains. Feel free to add me as a friend and if you have any advice you have on enhancing my Tribe.net space, please feel free to send it to me.

The plans for LOJ 2006 have moved forward at a record pace this year, as we enter April, we're already looking at new massive project to add just to keep our hands busy.

I find the normal patterns of Sypher's slumber have been changed forever. The dragon wakes in Winter to spread its wings for the court we hold in July. As we chase these dreams and ambitions into 2006, we shall work hard to make it another amazing year.

Quick update for those of you on the LOJ Tribes:

I know many of you have your tickets purchased now, so you shall soon see that ticket shipments have begun. Those of you who ordered early should have them in your hands shortly.

For those noble patricians who ordered coins, the new designs will be revealed this week online at http://www.labyrinthmasquerade.com and they should be minted and shipped by the end of May.

There's much to show and tell, but I wouldn't want to give too much away... I'd love to hear about costumes you might be planning for LOJ 2006 and perhaps see some more photos upon this tribe that we don't have in the LOJ galleries. Also, though I'm not here much, if I can help with any advice on building or costuming you might have, I shall certainly offer. . .

Beyond that, may you all keep your dreams bright and eyes even brighter,
